Dribbling: Slap Cut & Reverse Slap Cut

Check out this short video which provides a look at the technical points for the slap cut technique and reverse slap cut technique. Both these moves are great for pulling the defender off balance and then skipping away from their challenge and into the space behind.

You can also read some more soccer coaching points for cut moves in this earlier post.

Slap Cut

With the ball just in front and between your stance:

  • Slap your dribbling foot across the top of the football – from outside to in.
  • Move the ball slightly across your body as if to take it to the other foot.
  • Swivel your hips towards the other foot to really sell the dummy move.
  • Bring your foot down sharply on the inside of the ball, cutting it away from your body.
  • Accelerate away, dribbling with the ball on your original foot.

Reverse Slap Cut

With the ball just in front and outside your stance:

  • Slap your dribbling foot across the top of the football – from inside to out.
  • Move the ball slightly away from your body as if to take it to the outside.
  • Swivel your other hip towards the ball to really sell the dummy move.
  • Bring your foot down sharply on the outside of the ball, cutting it back across your body.
  • Accelerate away, dribbling with the ball on your other foot.
