3v3 Pass and Move Skill Practice

Soccer Coaching Session : Coach Passing Drill

Session Focus

This passing practice challenges players to put passing techniques and clever movement in to practice against full opposition pressure and in a constrained space. This practice pushes players’ skill to the limit and provides a highly intensive learning environment.

Primary Aims & Objectives

To develop quick passing, intelligent movement and good decision making.

Organisation

  • Set-up a large square area and divide in to four quarters.
  • In each quadrant play 3v3.
  • Teams score by controlling the ball on their opponent’s end-line.
  • Play first to five points and then rotate groups around the quadrants.
Make It Easier

Expand the area to give players more space.

Change the starting position of a defender so that attackers have a temporary numerical advantage.

Make It Harder

Reduce the area to give players less space.

Change the starting position of an attacker so that defenders have a temporary numerical advantage.

Progressions

Move players around as appropriate to give a couple of 4v2 games or a 4v3 and a 3v2 game.

Add goals outside the area. Now attacking teams play towards the goals and only earn a point if they beat the goalkeeper. If a team scores they retain possession and attack again. The defenders can attack if they win the ball and play over the attackers’ end line or if the attackers play the ball out of bounds.

Play 6v6 attack vs defence on one half of the area. Set-up the defence with a back four and two midfielders. Either play until the defence win the ball and play out across the halfway line, or give each team five attacks to score as many goals as possible.
