I just thought I’d drop by and tell you this worked really well with our U9s (good standard B team) last Thursday and I think we improved our passing in the game this weekend. The players seemed to be getting the hang of looking for teammates in better positions instead of just kicking the ball away as they sometimes do under pressure. Also I think the safe-zones idea in this session is a good one because I was able to give different tasks to players who were struggling and players who were finding the game a bit easy.

Thanks Milanista. I’m glad you liked it!

Did you have to modify the practices for your group in any way? Did you use any progressions (whether from the PDF or your own)?

      Best,

      Pavl

We just made sure the areas were a suitable size.  For our group of 11 players we used a 30 x 30m area and each safe zone was about 6m square.

My assistant said ‘two-touch’ at one stage but I didn’t want to limit players touches in case they were in position to score or they didn’t have good passing options or etc.  We also did offer an incentive for one strong player who could get a bonus point every time he played a 1-2 with a teammate which IMHO worked well and made him think about his movement after his pass.
